This is for you laptop owners with touchpad issues (and updating the driver or installing a separate mouse doesn't help). This video & a new part saved me from buying a new laptop. Dell shipped me the new part in 2 days ... and it was still under warranty after 2+ years so cost me nothing. Takes about 3 hours of time, but happy with the result. Be sure you have a tiny phillips screw driver and keep the parts & screws separated as you disassemble the laptop. Really not as hard as you'd think:

Let's begin.\r\nMethod 1: Enable the Touchpad using the function key\r\nThe most common reason why the touchpad stops functioning is because the user ends up disabling the touchpad function by mistake. Most laptops have a function key dedicated to the TouchPad integrated with the F keys. Here's a quick guide on creating a Linux boot DVD and boot your computer from it in order to fix the Dell TouchPad issue:\r\n\r\n \tDownload any Linux distribution ISO. If you don't know which, visit this link (here) and download the latest Ubuntu LTS release.\r\n \tOnce the Linux ISO is downloaded on your computer, insert a blank DVD and burn the Linux ISO on it.\r\nNote:\u00a0If you don't have a DVD at the ready, you can also copy the Linux distribution on a flash drive using this guide (here).\r\n \tRestart your machine and boot from the Linux media that you've recently created.
